I spent this past weekend in the Keys for Tyler’s brother’s birthday, and every time I go down there, I’m reminded of what a treasure I have right in my own backyard. It’s only an hour & a half drive to get there, which has me wondering why I don’t make it a point to visit more often!
If sunshine, sand, and palm trees are your idea of paradise, here are 5 reasons the Keys should be your next vacation spot:
1- The Views: It truly looks like a postcard here!
2- The Wildlife: We were lucky enough to see a manatee, sea turtle, sting ray, a ton of jellyfish, some gigantic tarpon, and quite a few hungry pelicans during our short weekend trip. The plethora of critters you can see here tends to be my favorite part 🙂
3- The Weather: Pretty self-explanatory.
4- The Food: The Keys are famous for their key lime everything and of course, fresh seafood. My suggestions? For gorgeous sunsets and live music, Lorelei is a must. You can’t miss the gigantic mermaid out front! And Robbie’s is a staple. Aside from good food, they’ve got tarpon feeding, local art for sale and on display, fishing charters, and bayfront views.
5- The Culture: “No shirt, no shoes, no problem” just about sums it up. 😉
