You’re Not Travel Obsessed Unless You Are Doing These Things

Traveling is in the blood. For some people (like me) it is an obsession. It’s so important to get out and see new places whether they are ones local to you, or even the farthest flung. But there comes a time in every world traveler’s life when they are in between trips. This can be tough, especially you are used to constantly use to meeting new people and exploring new places. But there are some things that you can do to get you through these tough times, & that will get you prepped for you next glorious trip. Read on to find out what they are.

Work on your capsule wardrobe.

One of the things about traveling all over the world is that you have to learn pretty quick to pack light. Eight pairs of shorts aren’t really necessary, and they are probably just weighing you down. All you really need is a few of everything & some laundry detergent, & you’re good to go.

But that doesn’t mean you have to look shabby or uncoordinated. In fact having a slimmed down wardrobe is a great way of ensuring that everyone compliments each other well. In also a great lesson in minimalism.

The best way to do this is to construct a capsule wardrobe for yourself. This is based on nine main items of clothing. But a word of warning here, they do need to be climate specific. For example, you would take a very different nine pieces clothing to the Yukon, Canada in the winter, that you would, to the Seychelles in the summer.

Basically, all you need is your underwear, three tops, three bottoms and three second layers like coats or jackets. You can also spice things up with the traveler’s favorite: the scarf.

Scarves are an always a great addition to your luggage because they are light, take up hardly any room and can be used for so many things. Such as keeping the sun off of your head or neck, or keeping you warm on a long flight.

Refresh your luggage and footwear

Another great thing to do while you are in that time in between trips is to sort our your luggage and footwear. Is your backpack smelling a little musty? Are your ‘trandles’ looking a little worse for wear? Then it can’t hurt to replace them, so you fresh and ready to go for your next trip.

Plan your next adventure

A major activity that you can partake in during this time between trips is to plan the next adventure that you will be going on. Doing so can be a bittersweet activity. As you get to narrow down the next location for your travels and all the sights that you don’t want to miss. Unfortunately, it can also make you really aware of your situation and increase your fervor to get back on the road. Ultimately it is worth it, though, so check out these blog recommendations for some inspiration.

Brush up on your linguistic skills

Another well-chosen activity that you can do when in between trips is to take that time to learn the language of the area that you are visiting. This can make a big difference to your trip. As not only will you feel more confident in another country, when you speak a little of the ‘lingo.’ But it will also make it much easier to interact with the locals in a natural way, and so you will get a much more authentic experience.

Some of the most popular languages for world travelers to learn include English, Spanish, and French. This is because many countries speak at least one of these languages.

For example French Polynesia, Canada, and many countries in Africa all have French as their official language. So there is plenty of places to explore if you speak a little French, aside from the country itself. Another great use of the time you have in between trips is to document the travels you have already been on. So often photos and notes stay on computers, phones or cameras. This means that they are not put together as a cohesive record of the wonderful things that you have done.

If you are concerned about space, you can create your own website so you can access it wherever you are in the world. Or, if you want something more tangible, why not use an online photo book service to create an album that will last forever?

Catch up with family and friends

Of course, it is important that you don’t spend all of your time and energy planning and getting ready for your next trip. Yes, this is what gets you out of bed in the morning, but you mustn’t forget to spend time with you friends and family while you are home either.

In fact, one of the hardest things about world travel can be that we miss our nearest and dearest when we away. So it would is wasted opportunity if we didn’t make an effort to spend some quality time with them when were are back.

Work and save

As every traveler knows, going around the world to far off places and exotic destinations takes courage, but it also takes money. That’s right you have to have the finances in place before you take off to the far-flung corners of the earth.

This is because it always costs money to get there. Think flights, boats or RV’s. Then you will need money to pay for your living costs, as well as the things that you want to do when you get there. To this end, many travelers find themselves returning home to work, which enables them to save for their next trip.

Although, some people are now cottoning onto to the fact that if they work digitally, they can earn remotely not matter where they are in the world. These people are often known as digital knows, and you can find more about them here.
